Laptop Buying Guide 2024
What are the specs of a good Laptop?
Clock Speed?Durability?
Processing power?
2024 is here and technology is advancing at a much faster rate mostly which is incorporated in New devices being produced; i.e, V.R, A.I, and what's a beautiful thing to experience that than having a device to help you with just that and much more.
Everybody needs a high performance laptop maybe for gaming, programming, production, editing etc. But do we know the most important features to look for when buying one. This guide is made to help you with just that.
Laptop with a HDD,SSD always.
Choose a laptop with an SSD drive always, first let's see what an HDD is.
HDD
HDD is called a hard disk drive shortened to a Hard Disk and is where data is stored.
It uses magnetic storage to store and retrieve information made possible by rotating disks known as platters. Here data is accessed randomly.
SSD
A Solid State Drive is a non-volatile and a newer generation storage device with a flash storage memory,no moving parts and much smaller than a HDD.
Difference between SSD Vs HDD
SSD pros
- Faster access time's of 0.1ms
- Random I/O performance of about 6000 io/s
- They are more reliable
- Energy efficiency as they consume 2-5 watts
- I/O request times is much faster
- Faster backup rates of 6 Hours
- Shock resistant
- Best for OS, gaming, apps and files
SSD con's
- More expensive
- Longetivity issues
- Slower access time's of 5.5-8.0ms
HDD cons
- I/O performance is slow at 400 io/s
- Less reliable
- Consumes more energy between 6-15 watts
- Much slower
- Slower backup rates upto 24hrs
- Fragile
HDD pros
RAM over 4gb
Advantages of devices with a RAM of >4gb
- Makes multitasking easier
- Runs games more smoothly and at faster Frame rates thus reducing latency and stuttering.
- Faster startup and shutdown
- Reduce the need for frequent backups as it doesn't have a need for virtual memory because of sufficient RAM.
- Handles multiple applications without slowing down the system and allows processes to run in the background.
- Improved battery life as the processor is subjected to less demand.
- Future proof - keeps up with new software's and apps as technology advances.
